Secondly, concentrate on building units that are capable of defending against air attacks, because the Night Elves will hit you with lots of flying units, including those horrible lightning-breathing two-headed dragons (they're called Chimera, by the way). The exception are Elven ballistae which have superior range, but that's why you have mobile ground troops, to run out there and smash the miserable things. That means any attacker who wants to smash that Tower has to take fire from several Towers at once. In fact, it's best to build them so close together even Peons can't even walk between them. A good military principal to remember here is 'defense in depth.' You must never build your Watch Towers so far apart that they can't support each other. Have Peons construct more Watch Towers on the northern and western edges of your base. There are two fords across the river, one in the middle of the map, and one at the very bottom (there's a third one way, way to the north but it's screened off by trees and doesn't come into play until later). There are only two ways the Night Elves are going to come at you (by land, anyway).
Tons of it! There's really no need to have any Peons harvesting wood on this mission, ever, so make sure you have five Peons working the gold mine, and then use a few spares to construct more buildings and towers and be on alert to repair structures as they get damaged. Now take a notice of how much wood you have stockpiled. Fortunately you have a gold mine here, a Great Hall, a Barracks, and you can build whatever additional structures you might need. Instead, salvage whatever units are over there (really just a couple of Peons and Witch Doctors) and take them to the right, across the river.
Everything on the left bank of the river is a total loss, don't try to build defenders on that side of the map, the Night Elves will wipe out those buildings and kill everything on that side anyway. However before you can even take stock of your surroundings, a Night Elf Hero by the name of Cenarius (who you will come to hate very much) starts throwing Night Elf attackers into your town and all hell breaks loose.įirst step: remember your Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy and Don't Panic. As soon as the mission begins, you'll see that you have a very large Orcish settlement scattered on both banks of a great river. There's a Latin phrase in media res that means jumping into a story right in the middle of things.
